The farm at Glenlyon Estate is managed by Alick Slater, who joined the estate in September 2015. There are currently 800 Blackface, Texel and Cheviot sheep along with a pedigree herd of 70 Luing cows with 70 followers and 4 bulls.

The Luing herd is a special Scottish breed of cattle established by the Cadzow family of the island of Luing in the 1960s and they are ideally suited to the terrain at Glenlyon.  The breed is a cross between the old Scottish short horn and the highland cattle breed and has been beneficial in helping to re-establish a more effective grazing regime on the open hill to improve the heather.
