Glenlyon Estate currently farms 400 Cheviot and Cheviot crosses along with a pedigree herd of 60 Luing cows with  followers.

The Luing herd is a special Scottish breed of cattle established by the Cadzow family of the island of Luing in the 1960s and they are ideally suited to the terrain at Glenlyon.  The breed is a cross between the old Scottish short horn and the highland cattle breed and has been beneficial in helping to re-establish a more effective grazing regime on the open hill to improve the heather.
